Welcome to Grace

Grace Covenant Brookland is a story in progress…the story of changed lives. And like every story, this one has a beginning. Shortly after 14 members of GCC Virginia responded to the invitation to plant a church in the heart of DC, we had our first public service of worship in early March of 1999. Meeting weekly in a local elementary school of a residential community, we always believed for more than what we could see. We believed God to transform lives!

So far our faith and service has not been in vain. One lifechanging moment after another continues to amaze us as people passionately follow Jesus. Children from insecure communities find hope and stability, university students discover purpose, ethnic diversity produces a rich and flavorful community, professionals are inspired to true greatness, broken people, marriages and families are restored while others are strengthened as altogether we practice loving, living and leading the way Jesus does.

Today we meet in small groups throughout the city during the week. On Sundays we meet at 3100 18th St NE Washington DC 20018. Our passion is to know Jesus intimately and make him known. We feel called to follow him and to influence people around the corner and around the world to do the same. To be continued…

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Vision Statement

Our Vision is to become a great & powerful people with a Heart for God & God’s Heart for People.

Mission Statement

Our Mission is to Connect people to Jesus and Equip people to Go for Jesus.

Statement of faith

We believe…

  • In the Holy Scriptures as originally given by God, divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy; and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct…
  • In one God , eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…
  • In our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, His virgin birth, His sinless human life, His divine miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, His mediatorial work, and His Personal return in power and glory…
  • In the Salvation of lost and sinful man through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ by faith apart from works, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit…
  • In the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a holy life, to witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ…
  • In the Unity of the Spirit of all true believers, the Church, the Body of Christ
  • In the Resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
We adopt & embrace

Nicene Creed: We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come. Amen.

Apostles Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

WHAT WE VALUE

Lordship
Because Jesus is “King of kings and Lord of lords,” we believe that whole-hearted surrender to Jesus as Lord (final authority), is the starting point of faith and salvation from eternal damnation..

If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, then you will be saved”. Romans 10:9

Evangelism
Because God’s heart is to reach the world, we seek to stir up the passion and model the pattern of sharing the gospel, for every disciple (follower of Jesus) to make disciples..

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

Discipleship
Because we are called to make disciples, our primary focus is establishing biblical foundations, equipping believers to minister, and empowering disciples to make disciples—not conducting meetings, facilitating programs, or building buildings.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19,20

Leadership
Because we are called to establish churches in every nation, we are committed to a culture of empowering leadership. We are intentionally multi-generational, and we deliberately create opportunities and platforms for next generation leaders to develop their leadership.

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Timothy 2:2

Family
Because the family is the foundation and validation of ministry, we refuse to sacrifice our marriages and our children on the altars of temporal success. And because we believe God has called us to be a spiritual family, we embrace community, reject the idea of disposable relationships, and choose to walk in love, respect, and unity.

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain… Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Psalm 127:1,3

Baby haven

Baby Havens started in 2003 after a series of articles published in the Johannesburg newspapers highlighted the large numbers of babies that had been abandoned in local hospitals. Many mothers who went to hospital to give birth learned of their HIV+ status and simply left the hospital without their baby. Other babies were found abandoned in rubbish bins, in fields and public places, and taken to hospital. Poverty and hopelessness combined to destroy many mother/child relationships. His People Johannesburg Pastors David and Caroline Webb responded by opening the first Baby Haven. The second Baby Haven opened in 2011 and the third opened in 2015.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
